This design is a true work of art, the interlocking seat cushion creates a wonderful and elegant sculptural interplay of volumes and proportion fitting of the fine sculptor that Mangiarotti was, a unique design and a minimalist masterpiece.
A few years ago we were lucky enough to buy a large portion of the seating from the ‘Casa Vitale’ house which we restored and sold on Seller. We have now been lucky enough to acquire a few of the last remaining seating elements from this unique commission.
We finished restoring by carefully stripping these chairs right back to their bare bones, the plain orange fabric that the chairs were finished in when we bought them was not the original ie the chairs had been recovered once before, we found the remnants of the original two tone orange fabric, as originally commissioned ,still stapled around the edges of each chairs wood base plate, this earlier fabric exactly matches the other set we had and sold which stil had l its original fabric ,as confirmed by the Mangiarotti archive.
As you can see in some of the photos the old original 1960s foam is now yellowed, dry and crumbling , we used new Pantera TM foam to replace all of the old foam and newly upholstered in the same Danish ‘Hallingdal 65’ wool fabric (by Danish, mid centry designer, Nana Ditzel) that we used to finish the previous set of five ‘casa vitale’ seating elements that we sold a few years ago .
Please note if you find the seating height a little low for your requirements we can have the feet adjusted to a slightly higher height to accomodate.
Photos of the entire restoration process will be available to the buyer.
An almost unique opportunity to acquire a piece of history by one of the most important italian designers and architects of the 20th century.
